ANZ branches and ATMs

Our approach

Making banking more accessible

Providing convenient access to branches and ATMs throughout metropolitan, regional and rural areas is an important part of our commitment to provide convenient and simple banking services.

Increasing our presence

Today, we have just under 1,300 branches and 4,084 ATMs worldwide, an increase of 39 ATMs over the past year.

In Australia and New Zealand, 180 of our branches operate with extended opening hours for the convenience of our customers, with many open later than 4pm on Thursday; later than 5pm on Friday, or open Saturday or Sunday.

Accessibility for people with disabilities and non-English speaking customers

Over 3,300 of our ATMs are now equipped with an audio-enabling feature to allow visually impaired customers to listen to an audio translation of information as it appears on the screen.

New ATMs also allow for wheelchair access with the screens and keypads a minimum distance from the ground. We avoid locations that have stairs-only access.

In New Zealand, ANZ and The National Bank were the first banks to introduce multilingual ATM s featuring Japanese, Korean, Chinese and English language options.
Across our Asia Pacific region, our ATMs are multilingual.

Case study: Improving accessibility to our customers in Indonesia

ANZ customers in Indonesia can now enjoy much greater convenience and less complicated banking through our upgraded ATM capability.

Our customers are able to access two leading Indonesian ATM networks and more than 40,000 ATMs across Indonesia. Our customers can conduct the activities below with their ATM card:

  • Internal bank transfer across ANZ accounts
  • Real time inter-bank fund transfer, including to more than 70 banks across Indonesia
  • One million ANZ Indonesia credit card holders and personal loan customers can now make credit card and personal loan bill payments.

Our ATMs have also been enhanced to meet more of our customers’ needs, including:

  • The availability of a mini statement that prints the last 10 transactions
  • Acceptance of Visa and Master cards for cash withdrawal and balance inquiries for international customers
  • The convenience of statement request and check book request.

2011 results

This year we have increased the number of ATMs available to our customers across the region, to 4,084, up from 4,045 last year.

In Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific, our branch presence in 2011 is little different from 2010.  Our branch presence has changed in Asia as a result of a review of our footprint post the RBS integration, to maximise ANZ's operations and efficiency across a number of Asian countries.
